A Guide for Beginers

Welcome!

I started this Blog because I've found that there is a real lack of useful information with well-reasoned opinions for players of Star Trek Online to figure out how to succeed at challenging content or just improve their characters. On this site, I want to provide information on how to generally improve your character/gameplay. I'll be posting conceptual ideas, tips, tricks, and even character build guides. The build guides will likely be a big help as they will provide in-depth information about how to build a solid character.

If you already are in the 75k DPS channel or have billions of Energy Credits stored in Keys and/or other commodities, this site won't help you and, frankly, it's not intended to. Why would such a person need help? It's for people who are struggling with content or just want to know how to get better. I'm here to help.

Keybinding and You!

One thing many people have trouble with is the Ability Tray's lag. We've all seen it. You know, when you click an ability, but nothing happens. Welcome to STO. You're not alone and it's frustrating for everyone.

The best way to minimize the effects of this lag and your own lag - the time it takes to move your mouse to the button or reach for your 30+ hotkeys on your keyboard (Crtl+alt+2, for example) - is to use a Keybind. Now, many of us can make our own. But, even for those that can, why muddle through it and figure it out? Why take the extra time? This Solution is simple: FES Star Trek Online Keybind Application.

The basic idea is that you select a tray, or more than one tray,  out of your 10 ability trays. (See the arrows in the upper left corner of your hot trays to cycle between them.) On that tray, or trays, you'll put all the abilities you want to cycle through when you hit, let's say, the space bar. What if you could hit space bar repeatedly and not only fire your weapons, but cycle through Attack Pattern Omega, Emergency Power to Weapons, Aux 2 Bat, Fire at Will, etc? Put a copy of them all on that tray, in order from left to right that you want them to activate. It's simple and easy. Just create the keybind through this program, follow the instructions, and test it out outside ESD or New Romulus or wherever. If the abilities activate when you hit the selected key, you're all set.

They have tutorials on how to use the application and how it is meant to work. Good luck!
